Mount Annapurna South (7219m) is one of beautiful 7000-meter mountain located north of tourist-city Pokhara. Mount Annapurna South is lying in the heart of Annapurna Himalaya ranges. Lying on the 55-kilometer long Annapurna Himalaya massif, Annapurna South is located east of world’s deepest Kali Gandaki gorge which separates Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massif. Annapurna South is member of world’s tenth highest mountain Annapurna (8091m). The name ‘Annapurna’ is named by Sanskrit ‘Full of Food’. ‘Anna Purna’ means ‘Full of Food’ in Sankrit. Entire Annapurna massif is projected by Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP). Trekking Experts offers Annapurna South Expedition to bring you to the top of Mount Annapurna South.
Annapurna South Expedition with Trekking Experts begins with six hours’ drive to Pokhara from Kathmandu. Approach to the base camp of Annapurna South follows the most popular Annapurna Base Camp trekking trail. Annapurna South is considered one of the toughest mountains to climb in Nepal. The trip starts from Pokhara and trek follows combination of beautiful landscapes, hospitality and rich culture of the local community. The trail passes through waterfalls, villages, farmlands, rhododendron forests, and snow-capped mountains. This trek allows you to see the Base Camp of the mighty peaks of Annapurna I (8091m), Annapurna South (7219 m), Machapuchare (6993 m) and Hiunchuli (6441 m) with gradual ascend avoiding altitude sickness. The expedition allows you to witness amazing views of Annapurna I (8091m), Annapurna II (7937m0, Annapurna III (7555m), Annapurna IV (7525m) and Gangapurna (7455m). The holy mountain Machhapuchre (Fish-Tail) 6997m is also an important peak that you can view while on the way to base camp. The climb of Annapurna South is considered difficult and technically challenging with steep sections on the summit ridge as well as traversing of steep and slippery slopes below the summit. Hence, previous experience of technical peak climbing with a good level of physical fitness is highly recommended for those wanting to conquer the summit of Annapurna South. Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan airport Trekking Experts representative welcomes you and assists to transfer in your hotel in Kathmandu. Upon arrival at hotel, our tour manager will brief you about trekking information and other necessary information. And then you’ll free time to explore Kathmandu.
Today you’ll visit around Kathmandu at the same time Trekking Experts will be preparing for climbing. One of you who will randomly picked as the Team Leader in the group needs to visit Department of Tourism for permit formalities. It will be just for about an hour only. And you can continue your tour around Kathmandu. There are several world heritage sites in Kathmandu and you can visit three among them. Most probably you’ll visit Boudanath, Pashupatinath and Bhaktapur Durbar Square.
After an early breakfast at hotel, our trekking guide will pick you from hotel and drive towards Pokhara by a private air-conditioned vehicle. On your way, you can see the picturesque Trishuli and Marsyangdi rivers along green and Rocky Mountains, rivers connecting each other and small springs too. It will take about six hours drive to reach Pokhara. You’ll stop on the way for lunch. Upon arrival in Pokhara, you’ll be checked-in at hotel and you’ll free time to relax at hotel or explore around Pokhara. Pokhara is a beautiful valley set on the banks of the Phewa and Begnas Lake, also known for its panoramic views of Annapurna (8,091m), Machapuchare (6,993m) in the north, Dhaulagiri (8,169m) in the west, Manaslu (8,156m) and Lamjung Himal (6,983) in the east. Pokhara is one of the most popular tourist's paradises with many facilities for travelers.
After breakfast at hotel in Pokhara, you’ll take about 45-minutes’ drive to Nayappol and from Nayapool you’ll start your trekking. The trail to Ghandruk goes through rhododendron and oaks filled forest. At Ghandruk you can visit the Gurung museum which has been well preserved and is probably the main point of attraction after the scenic view of the surrounding mountains. You will spend our overnight at Ghandruk.
After breakfast at lodge, you’ll leave Ghandruk and follow the fastest and popular trail via Kot Danda and Kimrong. A steady climb for some time will lead you to Taulung, from where you’ll ascend a long and steep stone staircase to reach Chhomrong. Chhomrung is a Gurung Village, and the highest permanent settlement in the valley with a tremendously vast view across to Annapurna South and Machhapuchhare.
Today's trek is a bit longer than previous days. After breakfast at lodge, you’ll make your way down through the spread out, picturesque village as you follow the trail down to Chomrong Khola, through the picturesque village and climb to the valley of the Modi River. You’ll follow the trail through a clearing in the forest then through the lush jungle with rhododendron, dense bamboo and oaks. You’ll pass a trailside canyon and eventually you make it to your evening’s destination.
After breakfast at lodge, today you’ll trek to Machhapuchhre Base Camp. The trail climbs through dense forest to a large rock overhanging - known as Hinku Cave. The trek continues as you follow the slightly rising trail towards Deurali. Soon the valley broadens and fine birch forest fills the far banks. Two obvious rock pillars mark the 'gateway' to the Sanctuary, which suddenly opens out to broad grassy slopes and a series of teahouses at Machhapuchre Base Camp. From MBC, you can enjoy the views of Machhapuchre, Gangapurna and Annapurna South.
After breakfast at lodge, today you will follow the trail that climbs an ancient moraine covered by grass to the west of Machhapuchhre Base Camp. There are many trails that wind gradually up towards Annapurna South Base Camp. As you climb towards the base camp, you’ll start to get a better perspective of the Sanctuary while enjoying the superb view of Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiun Chuli, Machhapuchre and other surrounding snow-capped high peaks. You climbing crew will make start necessary preparations for setting up additional camps in higher altitudes in order to reach the summit of Annapurna South.
We have estimated 15 days to climb Annapurna South from the base camp. During these days you will spend several days doing climbing training practices with adequate time for acclimatization. Our climbing crew will do all the hard works from carrying and setting up camps at higher altitudes, provide healthy and hygienic meals, fixing and finding appropriate climbing routes to the summit. Fully acclimatized and properly equipped with all the climbing gears you will follow the guidance and footsteps of our experienced climbing guides. Tackling several technical climbing sections and taking weather conditions into consideration you’ll head towards the summit of Annapurna South. From the top you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of Annapurna I, Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Annapurna IV, Dhaulagiri, Gangapurna, Machhapuchre (Fish-Tail), Hiun Chuli and other snow-capped peaks. You will spend short quality time at the summit and descend following the same route back to the base camp.
Today base camp will be cleaned and closed. And then you’ll trek back to Himalaya Hotel retracing your steps.
After breakfast at lodge, today you’ll continue your journey with a mixture of both uphill and downhill trekking that heads back towards Dobhan. The trail from Dobhan goes through the dense forest passing through the few tea houses of Bamboo and then towards Sinuwa. From Sinuwa you will descend steeply to cross a bridge over Chhomrong Khola. You cross the suspension bridge and start climbing a long stoned staircase to arrive at Chhomrong.
After breakfast at lodge, from Chhomrong, you’ll follow the trail that descends gradually passing through dense forest and along with rich natural resources. During your trek, you might spot Langur Monkeys and other species of rare wild animals and birds. The trek continues until you arrive at Syauli Bazaar.
After breakfast at lodge, you’ll do your last day of walking. From Syauli Bazzar you will follow a rather easy trail that heads through a densely forested area and beautifully terraced farmlands towards Nayapool. From Nayapul you’ll drive to Pokhara which takes about 45 minutes’ drive. Upon arrival in Pokhara, you’ll say good bye to all trekking crew (guide and porters). After check-in at hotel, you’ll have for relax, massage around lake side area of Pokhara.
After early breakfast at hotel, you’ll drive to Kathmandu by air-conditioned vehicle. The 200 km route goes along the Marsyangdi River and then the Trishuli River offering a good view of the natural scenery and farmland. Upon the arrival to Kathmandu, you will drop to hotel and then free to relax there. If you would to upgrade and take flight option to Kathmandu, you can take flight to Kathmandu at an extra cost.
Today is your last day in Nepal so prepare for departure, packing and returning gear. A massage is highly recommended to relax your tired muscles before your long haul flight home. Tour leader of the trip visits Department of Tourism for some Government formalities after the trip as De-Briefing. In the evening you’ll have farewell dinner at local Nepalese restaurant with typical cultured dances.
Depending on your flight time, you’ll be transfer to airport before 3 hrs of flight time.
