Mount Chamlang (7319m) is a beautiful mountain lying in the Makalu region (Hongu valley, southwest of Makalu). Mount Chamlang is situated in south west of world’s fifth highest mountain; Mount Makalu. You’ll trek in some part of Everest region in the beginning and then you’ll trek in the beautiful Makalu Barun National Park. From the summit of Mount Chamlang, you’ll have stunning panoramic view of giant 8000 meter mountains which includes five of the world’s 8000m peaks such as Everest, Kangchenjunga, Makalu, Cho-Oyu, Lhotse and many other 7,000m peaks including Baruntse, Ama Dablam, Pumori, Kangtega, Nuptse. Mount Chamlang Expedition with Trekking Experts begins with spectacular flight to Tenzing-Hillary Lukla airport. And the trail to base camp of Mount Chamlang follows Lukla, Chutanga, Khare (base camp of highest trekking Peak- Mera Peak and then to Chamlang base camp. You’ll cross two popular high passes Zatrawala Pass (4600m) and Mera La Pass (5400m) on the way to base camp. Trekking in the un-spoilt Makau region offers you pure wilderness, several passes, moraines, glacial lakes and views of spectacular peak and also the amazing views of Everest and Kanchenjunga. Climbing Mount Chamlang requires high level of physical fitness and previous experience of technical climbing. Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan airport Trekking Experts representative welcomes you and assists to transfer in your hotel in Kathmandu. Upon arrival at hotel, our tour manager will brief you about trekking information and other necessary information. And then you’ll free time to explore Kathmandu.
Today you’ll visit around Kathmandu at the same time Trekking Experts will be preparing for climbing. One of you who will randomly picked as the Team Leader in the group needs to visit Department of Tourism for permit formalities. It will be just for about an hour only. And you can continue your tour around Kathmandu. There are several world heritage sites in Kathmandu and you can visit three among them. Most probably you’ll visit Boudanath, Pashupatinath and Bhaktapur Durbar Square.
Early morning you’ll transfer to airport and you’ll make an early start to take a spectacular, short mountain flight to Lukla, the start points for our trek. During the flight you’ll see scenic views of Langtang, Jugal ranges, RolwalingHimal, Gaurisankar and Menlumtse before getting your first glimpse of Everest. Upon arrival at Lukla airport you’ll meet trekking crew and you’ll spend a few minutes sorting out bags before trekking to Chhutanga. From Lukla, the gateway to Khumbu you’ll starts towards east passing through a number of tiny hamlets before entering the thick forest on the hillside below the Kalo Himal Ridge. Be careful to stay with the group on this section as there are many trails leading away from the main path. There are many streams in the area, all of which are loosely referred to as Chhuthanga.
After early morning breakfast at lodge, you’ll continue your trek over a steeply ascending trail that heads for the crossing of Zatrawala Pass at 4600 meters. From the top of the pass, you can enjoy the spectacular views of NumburHimal, Kongde Ri, Karyolang Peak and many other fascinating peaks. Your trek continues along the levelled trail for almost one and a half hours before dropping downhill all the way to Tuli Kharka.
After breakfast at lodge, today you’ll trek Kothe. From Tuli Kharka today’s trail is a mixture of both uphill and downhill trekking through the dense forest filled with rhododendron, oak, pine and juniper trees. During the trek you will have magnificent views of Mera Peak and the surrounding snow-capped peaks. A steep descent to the Hinku River and a final uphill climb will lead you to Kothe. Kothe lies to the west side of the Hinku valley and offers serene wilderness with lush vegetation to trekkers.
After breakfast at lodge, today yur trail from Kothe goes along the ridge of Hinku river towards Gondishung. Further trekking you will pass through Lungsumgba Gompa which was built approximately 200 years ago. Here you can find Mera Peak along with its route scripted in a rock which is a fantastic piece of rock carving architecture. Your trek continues with a rather easy walking trail that leads to the summer grazing area of Thangnak where there are shops and a number of good tea houses.
After breakfast at lodge, today you’ll trek to Khare. Khare is kind of base camp of Mera Peak. Today’s trail from Thangnak goes over the lateral moraine towards HinkuNup and Shar Glaciers. From there, your further trekking is a steep climb all the way to Khare. You will have a magnificent view of Northern Face of Mera Peak from Khare. You will spend an extra day rest at Khare for acclimatization and exploration.
Today is full free day to explore around Khare and acclimatize. Acclimatization is very essential in higher altitudes to avoid mental and physical sickness. As you are above 5000 meters altitude, you will spend a rest day at Khare for acclimatization and exploration. Proper acclimatization is a must for ensuring our successful summit climb of Mera Peak. Our Sherpa team will make necessary checks on our climbing gears including ropes, ice axes, crampons, harness and other equipment before heading further to higher camps.
After breakfast at your last day lodge, today you will move up towards Chamlang Lower Base Camp. You’ll head following the impressive mountain in the Hinku basin takes you to reach adventurous Mera La Pass at 5400 meters. You’ll further follow the rock platform above the western ridge of Mera Glacier. Mera La Pass offers a stunning view of mountains including the close-up view of Mt. Chamlang. After Mera La, you’ll start gentle descend towards our campsite at Chamlang Lower Base Camp.

You’ll have about 15 days to climb to climb Mount Chamlang. During 15 days period you will spend several days doing climbing training practices with adequate days for proper acclimatization. Our Sherpa crew will do all the hard works of setting up additional camps at higher altitudes. Fully equipped with all the climbing equipment and with proper acclimatization you will follow the guidance and instructions of experienced climbing guides. You will tackle several technical climbing sections and taking weather conditions into consideration you’ll head towards the summit of Mount Chamlang. Once at the summit, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the world’s towering mountains including Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Nuptse, Baruntse, Makalu and several other high peaks in Everest Region. After spending quality time at the summit, you will safely descend following the same route back to Base Camp.
After cleaning up and closing base camp, you’ll now trek back to Mera La retracing your steps from Chamlang Base Camp to Mera La Pass. You walk through snow and ice ridges with a gradual descent. The descent is immediately steep, plunging down with crossing of snowfalls and often windy places. You make a safe campsite with splendid surrounding views at Mera La Pass.
After breakfast at Mera La Pass, you’ll trek through difficult and challenging snow ridges; and you’ll take further descent towards Khare. With impressive views of mountains, you’ll start to decline through steep screes, crossing boulder fields through the ridge of stunning Mera glacier. Finally reach Khare, where you will get nice tea houses for our accommodation.
After breakfast at lodge, today you’ll trek back to Kothet retracing your steps from Khare and trek through Thangnak before heading further towards Kothe. With mostly downhill trekking, you will leave the high altitudes and enter into the dense sub-tropical forest filled with rhododendron, oak, pine and birch trees. You trek until you arrive at Kothe for our overnight stay.
After breakfast at lodge, you’ll trek to Tuli Kharka and today your trail is uphill trekking through dense rhododendron forest that goes over the western section of Hinku valley towards Tuli Kharka. From Tuli Kharkayou can enjoy the magnificent views of Mera North, Mera Central and South face of Mera Peak.
After breakfast at lodge, you’ll do your final trek to Lukla today. From Tuli Kharkayou will gently ascend for the crossing of Zatrawala Pass and from the top of the pass, you’ll start descending to finally arrive back to Lukla. In the evening you can celebrate together with your crew for successful Mera Peak Climbing.
Depending on your flight time, you’ll walk to Lukla after breakfast. Then you’ll take short flight to Kathmandu which takes about 35 minutes to reach Kathmandu. Upon arrival at Kathmandu, you’ll transfer to hotel. And then you’ll have free to relax at hotel or explore around Kathmandu valley.
Today is your last day in Nepal so prepare for departure, packing and returning gear. A massage is highly recommended to relax your tired muscles before your long haul flight home. Tour leader of the trip visits Department of Tourism for some Government formalities after the trip as De-Briefing. In the evening you’ll have farewell dinner at local Nepalese restaurant with typical cultured dances.
