Helambu & Gosain Kund Trek

The ‘Helambu & Gosainkund Trek’ is a perfect short trek nearby Kathmandu Valley. Despite being so close to Kathmandu, the Helambu region remains relatively un-spoilt. Trekking Experts offer you this Helambu & Gosainkund Trek which allows you to witness the Hyolmo cultures and enjoy the green rhododendron and bamboo forests, majestic waterfalls, and snow-capped mountains and holy Gosainkund Lake. The great Himalayan scenery at the border with Tibet and monasteries make a trek to the region an enthralling experience. The people living the highlands of the Langtang region are certainly the Nepalis, being the descendant of the Tibetan origin, they still look like Tibetans.

 

The trip begins from Sundarijal, an hour’s drive from Kathmandu. After about an hour’s walk, we enter Shivapuri National Park. Continuing along the Chisopani, Kutumsang, Thadepati and Sermathang, the trek ends at the Dhunche; headquarter of Langtang National Park. The trip also includes the holy lake Gosainkund. Gosainkund is very famous lake and it holy lake of Buddhists and Hindus where Janai Purnima festival celebrates every year.

Itinerary

Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan airport Trekking Experts representative welcomes you and assists to transfer in your hotel in Kathmandu. Upon arrival at hotel, our tour manager will brief you about trekking information and other necessary information. And then you’ll free time to explore Kathmandu. Dinner will be booked at the hotel.

After early morning breakfast at hotel, you will go on an hour’s drive to Sundrijal. Sundarijal lies at the foothills of the valley and is the starting point of this trek. Upon arrival at Sundarijal, you’ll begin your trek to Chisapani that will take about four to five hours. As you begin to trek, you will come across a small hydroelectric plant. The trail further takes you to Shivapuri National Park. Soon after, you’ll arrive at the first settlement which is called Mulkhara after trekking up a ridge at 1895m and about 600m above Sundarijal. It is mostly inhabited by the Tamang people. Then you’ll walk by the ridge and through a dense forest of oaks and rhododendron. During spring, the forest will be blooming of multiple colored rhododendrons. After trekking through the forest you will finally reach Chisapani.

If you wake up early, you can enjoy sunrise view from viewpoint from Chisopani. After taking your breakfast, you’ll head for a journey to Kutumsang which takes about five to six hours. Today's trek starts with a decent trek by the meadows and fields enjoying the magnificent views of the Langtang Mountains. Then you’ll descend to a saddle in the ridge, arriving at Pathi Bhanjyang, a small and pleasant village. You’ll go to Gul Bhanjyang climbing over landscapes and a ridge to another pass. Another downhill trek from the pass takes you to Kutumsang.

After breakfast at lodge, today you’ll head towards the north of the Himalaya and this route gives you the beautiful views of the snowy peaks approaching ahead. You’ll climb above on a steep trail mostly through fir and rhododendron forest where there are no permanent settlements. The forests are luscious and dense blooming Nepal’s national flower; rhododendron. The trek continues to Yurin Danda with magnificent views of the Himalayas. Shortly you arrive at a few lodges at Magnegoth near a pleasing meadow with mountain views. Finally, you arrive at Tharepati.

After breakfast at lodge, you’ll trek to Phedi today. The trail follows into numerous forest, across steep-rocky slopes and Tadi Khola. For refreshment, there are a couple of tea houses at Ghopte which falls on our way to Phedi. You will spend the night in a local guest house at Phedi.

After breakfast at lodge, today you’ll trek to the sacred lake Gosainkunda. First you’ll cross Laurebina Pass situated at 4610 meters from sea level. You can scenic views of Helambu region, Gosainkund Lake and mountains. Early April is the best time of the year to do this trek because the entire hill is decorated with dense, blooming rhododendrons in red, white and ink colors. After crossing Laurebina Pass, you’ll reach Gosainkund Lake. Gosainkund Lake is holy lake for Hindus and Buddhist people. Every year, thousands of people come at Gosainkund to pray at Gosainkund. Also Gosainkund is the place for many Jankris (shaman/religious practioners) to prove their magic, supernatural powers. Gosainkund Lake is situated at 4380 meter from sea level. Gosainkund group of lakes comprises 108 lakes in different places and it has very importance in Hindu religion.

After taking picture of lake or if you believe in rituals, you can take dip into the lake too. After breakfast, you’ll descent to Singompa. Initially you’ll walk along the northern shore to start of the walk up to Laurebina La. From Laurebina Pass, you can see Surya Kund and views of Langtang ranges. From the pass, you’ll gradually descent to Singompa though the rhodendron forest. Upon arrival in Singompa, you may visit Yak Cheese factory which is one the oldest cheese factory of Nepal.

After breakfast at lodge, you’ll trek down to Dhunche. It will take about six hours to reach Dhuche. The first part of the trail descends through pine, silver oak and rhododendron forests with marijuana plants all around until you cross a suspension bridge over the Sing Gompa Stream. Now, the path stretches at a flat level through some human settlements and mineral water factories up to Dhunche. Dhunche is headquarter of Rasuwa district and also headquarter of Langtang National Park too. Dhunche is beautiful village of mostly Tamang people; since it headquarter; there are many Government offices there.

After breakfast at lodge, you’ll be picked up by our private vehicle for Kathmandu. It will take about 5 hours to reach Kathmandu. First, you’ll register your exit at army check post and the continue drive to Kathmandu. About 5 hours drive to Kathmandu, you will be getting scenic views of the Trishuli river valley as you head through south of the hills. Along the way you will see the terraced farmlands and meadows and hopefully a final glimpse of the snow-capped mountains. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you’ll be checked-in at hotel and will have free time to relax at hotel.

After enjoying a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, we’ll be met by our city tour guide for our day trip to a few of the Kathmandu valley’s most spectacular and important sights and some vibrant, colorful markets. With a meld of three ancient capitals and their associated palaces, temples and markets of Kathmandu has a lot to offer culturally and historically. However, we’re mindful not to overload you on your first day so will ensure the day has a good balance between sightseeing, exploring and relaxation time. The exact itinerary may change depending on the local conditions but we shall most likely visit: - Pashupatinath, one of the most important temples in South Asia to the Hindu God, Lord Shiva; - One of the three Durbar (Palace) Squares, a complex of palaces and temples which was formally the social, religious and administrative focal point of the ancient city. - Boudhnnanath Stupa, a wonderful Buddhist site centred on a huge Stupa topped with the all-seeing eyes. If possible we’ll come here in the early evening to soak up the atmosphere of hundreds of Tibetan and Sherpa peoples walking their devotional khora And after tour back to hotel.
