Nepal; the Himalayan country is well known for its high mountains. But also Nepal is very famous for cultural and historical sites. Nepal has an uncountable cultural, religious and historicial site which still amazes the world. Every historical and cultural site has its own feature and meaning. Out of those historical sites, UNESCO has recognized ten sites as world Heritage sites. Out of ten world heritages sites two are natural heritage sites and seven are historical and cultural sites. Trekking Exerts designed this Nepal Heritage Tour to explore all these world heritage sites in a single trip.

 

Nepal Heritage Tour with Trekking Experts begins with exploring seven world heritages sites of Kathmandu valley. Kathmandu Valleys includes three district viz. Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur and Kathmandu valley has uncountable religious and cultural sites. That’s why Kathmandu is also known as ‘City of Temples’. You’ll visit world heritages of Kathmandu such as Kathmandu Durbar Squares, Patan Durbar Squares, Bhaktapur Durbar Squares, Swayambunath Stupa, Bouddhanath Stupa, Pashupathinath temple and Changu Narayan temple in beginning two days of trip. Later, you’ll drive to Chitwan National Park which is very famous park for wildlife. Chitwan National Park is also world heritage sites designated by UNESCO. After explore wildlife, nature and relaxing there, you’ll drive to Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha. Lumbini is the center of Buddhism where Lord Buddha was born. This trip allows you to explore mighty nine world heritages sites of out ten in Nepal.

Itinerary

Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan airport Trekking Experts representative welcomes you and assists to transfer in your hotel in Kathmandu. Upon arrival at hotel, our tour manager will brief you about trekking information and other necessary information. And then you’ll free time to explore Kathmandu. Dinner will be booked at the hotel.

    Bouddhanath Stupa: Boudhhanath is one of holiest Buddhist stupa of Nepal located at 6 km away from downtown Kathmandu. It was built in fifth century by Lichhavi king Karna Dev. It looms 36 meters high and presents one of the most fascinating specimens of Stupa design. A huge statue of Lord Buddha is kept. Boudhanath a World Heritage Site is also known as Khasti. There are more than 45 Buddhist monasteries in the area. It is the biggest stupa in Nepal also called by many as Khasti Chitya, is one of the oldest stupas in the country. After 1959, many Tibetans arrived and settled in Bouddhanath area. The stupa, a well-known Buddhist pilgrimage site, is included in World Heritage Cultural site list by UNESCO.
 
  • Pashupatinath Temple:
  • Hindus holiest temple situated at the bank of Bagmanti River, 5 km away from the downtown of Kathmandu. Thousands of devotees converge here on an annual pilgrimage on the occasion of Maha Shivratri, the night of Lord Shiva falls in the month February. Entrance into the temple-precincts is permitted only for the Hindus but other can clearly see the temple and rituals beings performed inside from the eastern bank of the Bagmati river. The temple was listed in the UNESCO world Heritage Monument list in 1797. Pashupatinath Temple, with its astonishing architectural beauty, stands as a symbol of faith, religion, culture and tradition. Regarded as the most sacred temple of Hindu Lord Shiva in the world, Pashupatinath Temple's existence dates back to 400 A.D. The richly-ornamented pagoda houses the sacred linga or phallic symbol of Lord Shiva. Thousands of pilgrims from all over the world come to pay homage to this temple, that is also known as 'The Temple of Living Beings'.
 
  • Changunaryan Temple:
  • Changu Narayan Temple is the oldest temple in Kathmandu valley came in existence in 4th century. The temple is adorned by some of the best specimen of stone, wood, and metal craft in the valley. The temple stands as the epitome of culture, religion, history and faith of the Kathmandu valley.
 
  • Bhaktapur Durbar Square:
  • Bhaktapur Durbar Square is an assortment of pagoda and shikhara-style temples grouped around a fifty-five-window palace of brick and wood. The square is part of a charming valley as it highlights the idols of ancient kings perched on top of stone monoliths, the guardian deities looking out from their sanctuaries, the wood carvings in very place - struts, lintels, tympanums, gateways and windows - all seem to form a well orchestrated symphony. This complex of palaces, courtyards, and temples were built in the 12th to 18th centuries used to be the seat of the ancient Malla kings of Kathmandu situated at 12 km from Kathmandu in Baktapur district.

  • Patan Durbar Square:
  • Patan Durbar Square complex is situated in the center of Patan city, also known as Lalitpur and it was the residence of the former Patan royal family. Patan Square and its surroundings is good specimen of ancient Newari architecture. There are three main courtyards in the palace: Mul Chowk, Sundari Chowk and Keshav Narayan Chowk. Mul Chowk, the oldest one, is at the centre of Patan square. Several multi-sized and multi-styled temples occupy the western part of the complex. Main among these is Krishna Temple, Bhimsen Temple and the Golden Temple of Hiranya Varna.
 
  • Kathmandu Durbar Square:
  • Kathmandu Durbar Square is another UNESCO world heritage sites with a cluster of ancient temples, palaces, courtyards and streets that date back to the 12th and 18th centuries. The square is known to be the social, religious and urban focal point of the Capital City. The Palace Complex was the royal Nepalese residence until the 19th century and is the site of important ceremonies, such as the coronation of the Nepalese monarch. The palace is decorated with elaborately-carved wooden windows and panels an. It houses the King Tribhuwan Memorial Museum and the Mahendra Museum.
 
  • Swayambunath Stupa:
  • The Buddhist temple of Swayambhunath is situated on the top of a hill, west of Kathmandu, is one of the most popular, holy and instantly recognizable symbols of Nepal. The temple is colloquially known as the 'monkey temple' because of the large tribe of roving monkeys who guard the temple.

After breakfast at hotel, you’ll be picked up from hotel and will drive to Chitwan National park. You’ll drive to 175 kilometers south of Kathmandu in the flat plain. About six hours’ drive to Chitwan follows the Trishuli river. Upon arrival at hotel, you will check-in at hotel and will be briefed about your tour plan for the days and nest days. After lunch you can stroll around the bank of Rapti River. You will then visit the observation tower to watch the hypnotic view of sunset which is regarded as the best part of the day. Finally, to end your day with entertainment, Tharu ethnic group will perform a cultural program reflecting the tribal dance of Chitwan. Chitwan National Park is the first national park in Nepal which was founded in 1973 and in 1984 it was declared as World Heritage Site. It covers an area of 932 km and is located in the subtropical Inner Terai lowlands of south-central Nepal in Chitwan District. Chitwan is also known as best destination for jungle activities and exploration of flora and fauna. There are around 600 plant species, 56 mammal animals, 539 types of birds, 49 amphibians and reptiles, 412 Asian one-horned rhinoceros and 93 Royal Bengal Tigers in Chitwan National Park. Chitwan National Park is home for the many animals like wild boars, wild dogs, rhesus monkeys, wild cats, langurs, deer, leopards, gaur, many types of reptiles and snakes. Today you’ll explore around Chitwan National Park. You will go for canoe ride along the Rapti River in the western side of the national park after having breakfast. There, you will see a variety of bird species and also get a closer view of two rare species of crocodiles - Marsh Mugger and Gharial. Then you will return to hotel for lunch and then go back for elephant safari where you will mount on an elephant that walks through the dense forest as you look around to observe one horned rhino, different types of deer, rhesus monkeys, peacocks, wild boars, and if you are lucky enough, you can come across Royal Bengal tiger. You can also enjoy the elephant bathing in the river, which is something we will not want to miss. You will also visit the elephant breeding center in the evening.

Early in the morning, after having a cup of tea/coffee, you will go to the Beeshazari Lake, which is also a Ramsar site, for bird watching. There you will get to see a wide range of bird species, especially water birds. This is worthwhile for passionate photographers and bird watchers. Then, you will come back hotel and have breakfast. After breakfast, you’ll drive back to Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha. Your tour follows the bank of the Trishuli River and follows the road that has traversed small hills and villages. Most of the time, the road enters a zone, which abounds with green vegetation. It is a 4 hours journey, and the approximate distance is 190 km. Upon arrival in Lumbini, you’ll check -into a hotel. And then you’ll have free time to rest at hotel.

Today you’ll visit and explore ninth world heritage sites of your tour. After breakfast at hotel, you’ll visit around Lumbini. Lumbini is a holy pilgrimage, as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. One of the main attractions of Lumbini is the Ashoka pillar, which was built by the Indian Emperor, Ashoka, and which has an inscription, mentioning that Lord Buddha was born in Lumbini in Nepal. Maya Devi Temple is another attraction of Lumbini and is more than 3000 years old. Maya Devi was the mother of Lord Buddha. Other attractions are beautiful monasteries built by different Buddhist a countries like China, Japan, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar. The tour will begin by driving away, 27km west of Lumbini; visit the important archaeological site, Tilaurkot, the ancient palace of King Suddodha (Siddhartha Gautam’s father), where the Buddha spent his formative years as a Shakya Prince. Allow yourself for a moment to wander around and soak the atmosphere. There’s a museum nearby, The Kapilvastu Museum; the pottery, jewelry and ornaments are gathered in-house. End up the remarkable tour in Tilaurkot by visiting the shrines, monasteries and stupa near the sacred garden.

After breakfast at hotel, today you’ll back to Kathmandu. Driving to Kathmandu will be about 265 kilometer northwest through East-West Prithvi High Way. About 8 hours’ drive to Kathmandu will provide beautiful scenery during the drive. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you’ll check-in at hotel and rest at hotel.
