Mountain bike tour to Upper Mustang provides you unique feeling because of its geographical structure, local culture and mysterious caves. Cycling Tour to Mustang brings you to the kingdom of Mustang; Lo Manthang. Mustang region is rich in culture, tradition, unique lifestyle and many mysterious man-made caves. The journey starts by flying to Jomsom through the deepest gorge in the world, between the Dhaulagiri and the Nilgiri. From Jomsom, the trail follows to Dhakmar where you can find the oldest Tibetan monastery in the world, the Lo Gekar Monastery.  Lo Gekar Monastery was built in the 8th century by the famous Tibetan magician Guru Rimpoche.  Legends have it that Guru Rimpoche had to kill a powerful demon first and the blood of the demon was used to paint the rocks around Dhakmar. This trek will also bring you to world’s deepest gorge Kali Gandaki Region and the world’s highest regions of Lo-Mangthang Valley that passes through dry barren landscape, a steep rocky trail up and down hill and panoramic views of Nilgiri, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and several other peaks. The trek passes through high peaks, passes, glaciers, and alpine valleys. The thousands years of isolation has kept the culture, lifestyle and heritage remains unchanged from centuries to this date. The houses in Mustang are mostly made from stone and sun baked mud bricks.

Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan airport Trekking Experts representative welcomes you and assists to transfer in your hotel in Kathmandu. Upon arrival at hotel, our tour manager will brief you about trekking information and other necessary information. And then you’ll free time to explore Kathmandu. Dinner will be booked at the hotel.

After an early breakfast at hotel, our trekking guide will pick you from hotel and drive towards Pokhara by a private air-conditioned vehicle. On your way, you can see the picturesque Trishuli and Marsyangdi rivers along green and Rocky Mountains, rivers connecting each other and small springs too. It will take about six hours drive to reach Pokhara. You’ll stop on the way for lunch. Upon arrival in Pokhara, you’ll be checked-in at hotel and you’ll free time to relax at hotel or explore around Pokhara. Pokhara is a beautiful valley set on the banks of the Phewa and Begnas Lake, also known for its panoramic views of Annapurna (8,091m), Machapuchare (6,993m) in the north, Dhaulagiri (8,169m) in the west, Manaslu (8,156m) and Lamjung Himal (6,983) in the east. Pokhara is one of the most popular tourist's paradises with many facilities for travelers.

Jomsom. During the early morning flight to Jomsom and if clear is clear, you will see spectacular mountain views as you pass through two eight thousanders mountains between Dhaulagiri and Annapurna, following along the world’s deepest gorge. The landscape below is absolutely breathtaking. You will land in Jomsom, district headquarters of Mustang. You’ll start your bikinh journey from here. Upon arrival at Jomsom airport, your mountain bike guide and porter will meet you there and will pack up your baggage for Kagbeni. From Kagbeni you’ll start your bike riding the relatively flat section along the river trail. In Kagbeni, you can enjoy a fantastic mix of scenery and native lifestyle. The lively Tibetan culture in the village is sure to give you a warm welcome. Kagbeni is just south of the restricted area of Upper Mustang.

After breakfast at lodge, you’ll enter to Upper Mustang region. The trail climbs for a short stretch from Kagbeni and then on a dusty path you’ll ride on a short downhill section. There are fantastic views of snowcapped mountains that you can enjoy. Chusang and Tetang villages, around 3,000m in altitude, have rich fields of barley, potatoes and apple orchids. After a short steep climb, you’ll reach the beautiful village of Chele, your destination for the day. Caves believed to be created thousands of years ago can be seen shortly before you reach Chele.

After breakfast at lodge, you’ll move to Ghami. Chele La Pass (3630m) is your first checkpoint, as you pass the Samar valley, and along the way other passes like Taklam La (3820m) and Yamda La (3900m). The ride takes you through the tiny settlement of Syangbochen village, from where the Ramchung cave and chorten-like stalagmites are just nearby. Indeed, this section makes for one of the most sacred places in Mustang. From Syangboche you’ll descend to the picturesque valley of Geling, where you can see mostly mud houses. Crossing Nyi La Pass (4,027m) today will be demanding but well rewarding once we reach Ghami.

reach the village of Tsarang with panoramic scenery of Nilgiri, Tilicho, Annapurna I and Bhrikuti peaks. You’ll make a quick visit to the Red Monastery at Charang. The walled city of Lo Manthan, the district capital of Mustang, will be visible as you cross Lo La Pass (3930m), popularly called Windy Pass. The sight of the old kingdom will make you feel lost in another era. The mystical and isolated city certainly is a major destination of our trip. More than 600 years old, the walls of Lo Manthan are believed to ward off the evil spirits.

Today is fully free to explore around Lo Manthang. You can rest and also you will visit three major monasteries (with ancient paintings and art) and a four-storey palace of an old Mustangi king. You’ll mix in with the locals and observe their lifestyle and how they go about their daily chores. To get around Lo Manthang, you can hire a horse (optional) to visit nearby villages like Choser and other great attractions like the Jong cave tunneling intricately on the mountainside. The experience you get in this old kingdom – of the culture, nature, architecture, people views and the feeling of being in an ancient rustic town – will make special memories.

After breakfast at lodge, today you’ll ride backto Ghami retracing your trails. Riding back to Ghami through challenging but exciting alternative routes that take you over the Pang La Pass situated 4,132m in altitude. From here a thrilling downhill takes you to Ghar Gompa, a beautiful 1200-year-old monastery, and amazing red landscapes of Dhakmar village. The vegetation at Dhakmar is greener that in other places of Upper Mustang. After an hour’s ride on mostly undulating single tracks, you reach Ghami in the late afternoon.

After breakfast at lodge, today you’ll ride back to Samar. The route to Samar is the same way back to Kagbeni, but since you’re taking a detour, the sceneries are much different and you’ll see more of the Annapurna range on a clear day. You’ll ride through a couple of passes on jeep tracks with little to no traffic. The quaint Buddhist village of Samar is one of the larger ones in Mustang and the people here are engaged mostly in agriculture. You’ll see many horses here as they are used for transportation and for agriculture as well.

After breakfast at lodge, today you’ll ride back to Kagbeni following the newly built dusty downhill jeep-tracks along the Kali Gandaki River, you head to Kagbeni. At this point, you will be exiting Upper Mustang and entering Lower Mustang. On this day, you will descend more than 800m in altitude, cover about 30 kms. Once you reach Kagbeni in the afternoon, you will have enough time to explore the village and interact with the local people, a majority of whom are of Tibetan descent.

After breakfast at lodge, you’ll start riding uphill and gain almost 1000m in elevation. The region is dry and arid, almost desert-like, with awe-inspiring sceneries of the mountains at the horizon. You will come across trekkers and pilgrims, flocking from as far as India, on their way to Muktinath, one of the most revered Hindu temples in the world. Once at Muktinath, you’ll explore the religious site and see the eternal flame that burns on natural gas source. “Mukti” means liberation and “nath” means a holy temple, so Muktinath is considered to be a temple of soul liberation. Besides Hindu hermits and pilgrims, you’ll see some Tibetan traders as well.

After breakfast at lodge, From Muktinath you’ll ride along a very enjoyable downhill track descending to the Kaligandaki River valley. You’ll make a quick pit stop at Marpha, a village with legendary apple orchids. Make sure to taste some Marpha Brandy and a range of apple products like apple pie and dried apple skin. We call it a day at Tukuche village, an ancient Thakali tribe settlement, and spend some time exploring the region and learning about the culture and history of the village. Tukuche lies right beneath the Tukuche peak and Dhaulagiri, with amazing views of Mt. Nilgiri and icefalls of Dhaulagiri’s east face.

After breakfast at lodge, you’ll begin your riding from Tukuche to Tatopani through some fantastic downhill sections. Tatopani translates to “hot water” and rightly so, the hot springs at Tatopani are quite a treat. This is a fabled place to relax your mind and body, so pamper you after a great day of biking in this fantastic region. Located besides the banks of the Kali Gandaki River, the hot dip amidst the surrounding natural beauty in Tatopani will definitely help to unwind your muscles.

After breakfast, today you’ll do your last day of riding to Beni from Tatopani. After relaxing at hot spring, you’ll ride for about 1.5 hours on jeep tracks to reach Beni, a small but vibrant market town. You’ll spend some time exploring the town and then drive back to Pokhara which will take about 4 hours’ drive. It’s a bumpy drive and you can enjoy the scenic views you get along the away. Once you reach Pokhara, you can spend your time to explore around Pokhara.
