Jomsom to Dolpo Trek

Dolpo/Dolpa region is one of wonderful trekking destination for tented camp holidays. Dolpa region is a perfect destination for nature lovers, adventure seekers and cultural explorers. The famous SheyPhoksundo National Park is located in Dolpa region. Trekking Experts offers this exclusive tented camp trek to Upper Dolpo region from Jomsom. This is newly developed trek by Trekking Experts to taste you the different route to explore Lower Dolpo region. Jomsom to Dolpo Trek is a combination of Annapurna region and Dolpo region. Unlike normal route to Dolpo, you won’t repeat same trekking trails. You’ll start trekking from Jomsom; the headquarter of Mustang district and ends at headquarter of Dolpo district.

 

This exclusive Jomsom to Dolpo Trek offers you unique experience of nature, culture and beautiful landscapes. Mustang and Dolpo is a land of ancient trading routes arcing across a timeless landscape, distant from the modern world. You’ll follow the off-the beaten trekking trail and it will bring you through Yak caravans traversing the barren terrain, medieval fortified villages clinging to mountain slopes, several passes and at its heart the mystical Bon Kingdom.You’ll get golden opportunity to explore SheyPhoksundo national park, Phoksundo lake and ancient DhoTarap Village. In Ringmo, the village close to the lake, you can experience Bonpo culture, based on a century old religion which is a mystique mixture of Buddhism and animistic believes. The trail offers wonderful adventure, encountering interesting places, people, villages, valleys and serene forest of pines, oaks and rhododendron, the trek passes many gigantic mountain ranges and over the Numala pass at 5,400m till you’ll reach the Phoksundo lake at Ringmo village in the “Phoksundo National Park”.

Itinerary

Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan airport Trekking Experts representative welcomes you and assists to transfer in your hotel in Kathmandu. Upon arrival at hotel, our tour manager will brief you about trekking information and other necessary information. And then you’ll free time to explore Kathmandu. Dinner will be booked at the hotel.

After breakfast at hotel, you’ll drive to Pokhara by private air-conditioned vehicle which will take about 6/7 hours’ drive. On the way you’ll see beautiful landscapes, villages and forest. Upon arrival at Pokhara, first of all you’ll check-in at hotel. And you’ll free time explore about Pokhara.

After very early morning breakfast, as per your flight time, hotel will provide you vehicle to transfer to the airport which we will have already arranged and co-ordinate with because your guide and staff already will be at Jomsom. Then, you’ll fly northwest from Pokhara toward the great portal between the snow-covered peaks of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. You will enjoy the well-raised massifs of more than 8000 meters, and the deepest gorge on this planet. On arrival to Jomsom you will meet tour trekking crew. Your porters will pack up your baggage and start first day of trekking to Kagbeni. It will take about three hours to reach Kagbeni.

After breakfast at Kagbeni, you’ll start trekking towards to Yak Kharka through the Kali Gandaki Valley; we have excellent views of the Annapurna Range, Muktinath and Mustang. We traverse into the spectacular ChalungKhola, climbing and descending side canyons along the way, to the village and we shall set up at Yak Kharka.

After breakfast at camp, you’ll trek toward to Dolpo region. You’ll ascend the convoluted Chalung gorge, then climb 400 feet, to 16800- foot, Sangdak Pass, the eastern entrance to Dolpo. The scenery is magnificent. This has got to be one of the grandest viewpoints in the world.

After breakfast at camp, you’ll trek to Ghalden Ghuldung river via crossing Santa Pass. Today will be the most exciting and tough of your trek crossing two passes the same day. After a strenuous trek along the passes finally you come stop for the day at Ghaldang Ghuldung.

After enjoying the mountains views you will proceed to the Jungben La (5550m) and Niwas La (5120m). You will trail along the valley of Kang Gopa. You will climb a small crest at 4,060m. From there you can see the spectacular view of the Sonam Kang, Shey Shikar (6,239m) and Kang Chunne (6,443m). The trail is rough and dusty and you will pass through Birches’ and Blue Pine forests. The trek will be bit harder but remains full of excitements. After crossing the pass, you will have night stop at Nulungsumdakharka at 4987 meters. Overnight stay at tented camp.

After breakfast at camp, today you’ll trek to ChhakraBhot. Today’s trip enters toward mainland of Dolpo region. The trek will be quite adventurous eastwards towards Jomsom with most other groups at this point heading south back to the airstrip Juphal. This section passes through a remote wilderness that very few people have the privilege of visiting. As you walk from NulungsumdaKharka to DhoTarapyou will see typical village, as you approach the Chharka La pass the valley narrows where we camp for the night.

Today is fully rest day after some strenuous trek from Jomsom. Today you’ll rest and explore around Chakra Bhot.

From Charka Bhot, you will trek downhill along the bank of river to Rakpa. After crossing the Dolma La and descending the steep and narrow trail to Shey, we will cross the Shey La Pass at 5,010m and descend for some time before climbing Namjung. The trail will then ascend and descend along the NamjungKhola to Karang. Then, the trail will steeply descend to TorakSumdo and climb up Yanger Gompa at 3,750m. You will trek along the river to the valley. From there, you will continue your descend further into the valley of Mugoan. You will climb towards the Mushi La at 5,030m and then walk to the Shimen village (4,010m). From here, you will continue our long trek along the river to Pha in 4,090m to reach Tinje. You will continue our trek along the river to ChanlaPhedi where you will spend the night in a camp.

From Chap Chu, you will ascend to Charkala (4,920m) and then descend down the side of the valley. The trail then climbs to the crest and descend to the dwindling river. The valley becomes narrower. On reaching DhoTarap we will take a good rest and spend the night in a camp.

After a wonderful time here at DhoTarap, your journey continues towards upper Tarap valley, the walk follows in this plain valley with patched of lush verdant grass on both sides of the river, which is completely different from other parts of inner Dolpo. The trek on this pleasant track leads by the Tarap chu upstream all the way. Tarap is certainly a dream valley with vast plains in high mountains extending twenty kilo meters along the river Tarap Chu, having ten villages with cultivated fields of barley, buck wheat, wheat and potato. After 3-4 hours of good walk in this perfect tranquility coming to the village of Tokyu, it has a monastery belonging to the Chiba sect. After a break here your walk continues further up this valley climbing up the rough track for almost another three hours to reach our overnight camp beneath the Numa-la and overnight camp on the pasture field.

After early morning breakfast, you’ll start your trek as today is one of the long and difficult days of the trek. Today you’ll cross the highest pass i.e. Numa La Pass (5309m) during this trek where you may feel difficult but can be seen a great view takes 6-7 hours and from the top of Numala you, will descend another bottom part known also as Phedi and overnight.

After breakfast your journey continues with after crossing of Baga La pass at 5169m the track leads to steep climb all the way to the top ridge of BagaLa with great views of the surrounding landscapes scenery of valleys, mountains including north face of the Dhaulagiri massif along with other distance snowcapped peaks. after a glorious moment at the pass, almost three hours of downhill walk takes to Palungtang or further for the overnight camp at Yak Kharka.

After breakfast at camp, today morning trek starts with a steep climb to reach the ridge top of Baga-la at 5,070m, which offers fantastic views of the surrounding landscapes and of the distant snowcapped peaks of KanjirowaHimal range, after a great moment here your walk leads to a descend for 2 hours through the pine forest, on leaving the forest behind the country and the vegetation changes for pasture field and alpine shrubs most of the way to Ringmo on the gradual slopes with few ups and downs as we reach our final destination at Ringmo and the crystal serene Lake of Phoksundo.

After two days tough trek at Numa La and Baga La Passes, today you can rest and explore around Phoksundo Lake.Phoksundo Lake is one the famous glacial lakes of Nepal. Also there is Tibetan Buddhist monastery nearby which is well worth a visit, as is the village of Ringmo. A walk part way round the lake is also very enjoyable and relaxing. This is a great day exploring the lake areas and with a great view.

After breakfast at camp, today you’ll descend to Sanduwa first. Sanduwa literally means three trials. It lies between the KagmaraKhola and the PhoksundoKhola. A national park and an army check post sit here. And you’ll trek to Trek to Chhepka (2,680m). You will now descend to Chhepka leaving the beautiful mountains in the backdrop. We will follow the stream going south and cross a beautiful forest to reach Chhepka where we will spend the night.

After breakfast at camp, today you’ll finish off your trekking. The trail starts with about 3 hours descent till Sulighat and then you’ll trek about 3 hours ascent to reach Juphal.

After early breakfast at Juphal, you’ll take a short 30 minutes’ flight to Nepalgunj from Juphal. And then you’ll catch another flight to Kathmandu from Nepalgunj. Depending the flight time to Kathmandu, you can spend some time in Nepalgunj to wait connecting flight to Kathmandu. Upon arrival in Kathmandu airport, you’ll be transfer to hotel.

After enjoying a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, you’ll be met by your city tour guide for our day trip to a few of the Kathmandu valley’s most spectacular and important sights and some vibrant, colorful markets. With a meld of three ancient capitals and their associated palaces, temples and markets of Kathmandu has a lot to offer culturally and historically. However, we’re mindful not to overload you on your first day so will ensure the day has a good balance between sightseeing, exploring and relaxation time. The exact itinerary may change depending on the local conditions but we shall most likely visit: - Pashupatinath, one of the most important temples in South Asia to the Hindu God, Lord Shiva; - One of the three Durbar (Palace) Squares, a complex of palaces and temples which was formally the social, religious and administrative focal point of the ancient city. - Boudhnnanath Stupa, a wonderful Buddhist site centered on a huge Stupa topped with the all-seeing eyes. If possible,you’ll come here in the early evening to soak up the atmosphere of hundreds of Tibetan and Sherpa peoples walking their devotional khora. And after your back to hotel. Evening farewell dinner at local authentic Nepalese restaurant. Overnight at Hotel
