Tibet-Everest Base Camp-Medieval Nepal

This journey is a 13 days but absolutely rich of precious sacred sites both in Nepal as well in Tibet. The first days will be dedicated to the fascinating and spiritual Valley of Kathmandu, immersed in between Palaces of Newari architecture, temples, medieval cities and stupas: a rich visit of the most important places of this sacred Valley. Then we’ll immediately fly to Lhasa to continue to the Kingdom of Yarlung. And from here starts our Tibetan adventure in search of major historical sites full of secular wisdom scattered in the Classical Tibet: Samye, the Potala, the Jokhang, the monastic universities and the Palace of Norbulinka, Gyantse, Shigatse and the Panchen Lama’s Monastery, Sakya Monastery till we arrive,  after passing the highest pass of the entire route, Gyatso La at 5250 meters, to Shergar. The day later: the Everest Camp Base! After a spectacular view of the north face of the highest mountain in the world, we’ll be ready to go back to Kathmandu overland.

 

In all this, your knowledge of Buddhist philosophy will be increased by simple daily late afternoon Teachings on different topics in order to permit you to have a precious insight of Buddhism and some meditation wisdom pills. Days dedicated to visiting the city and the Kathmandu Valley. The city with Durbar Square full of pagodas, temples and medieval palaces; the temple of Pashupatinath, the wonderful stupa of Bodhnath and the panoramic hill with the temple of Swayambunath, the main Hindu and Buddhist pilgrimage centers of all Nepal. The two medieval cities of Patan and Bhakthapur located a few kilometers from the capital, places full of charm and history where you can perceive the life of Nepal still far from the rhythms of modernity. Transfer to the airport and departure with the flight to Lhasa. Arrival and continuation to Tzetang (2 hours), in the ancient Kingdom of Yarlung. Excursion to Samye Monastery located north of the YarlongTsangpo River. Crossing of the river on traditional open boats (about 2 hours) and reach the monastery built in the second half of the 8th century by the master Guru Rimpoche. Samye has a Mandalic form which represents the Buddhist universe; the main temple is built on 4 levels and reveals frescoes and statues of rare beauty At the end of the visit, continuation to Lhasa (190 km - about 4 hours) located at 3600 meters above sea level. Days dedicated to visits to the most important monuments and temples of Lhasa and surroundings. Lhasa is the country's greatest religious center, the capital of Tibet since 1642 of which the undisputed symbol is the Potala, residence of the Dalai Lamas until the Chinese invasion of 1959. The Potala, a structure with imposing dimensions, it is at the same time a monastery, palace, temple and fortress with very high red walls, spiers, roofs covered with gold foil and a thousand rooms adorned with rich decorations. Visit of the old Lhasa with the Jokhang temple considered the "spiritual heart of the city" and the most sacred in Tibet and excursions to the universities of Sera and Drepung (ancient seat of the "Yellow Sect") and to the Palace of Norbulingka, former summer residence of the Dalai Lama. Beginning of the crossing of the Himalayan chain from Lhasa to Kathmandu, Nepal. Departure by off-road vehicles for the city of Gyantze (250 km - about 5 hours) along the panoramic road located on the slope of the Kampa La pass (4800 m-asl), from which you can enjoy a splendid view of the waters of Lake Yamdrok. Continue along the lake to go up the Karo La pass (5010 m asl) enclosed between two glaciers. Arrival in Gyantze (3900 m-asl) once a control center for caravans bound for Bhutan and Sikkim. Morning dedicated to the visit of the hermitages and the ruins of the fortified castle, of which you can still see the ancient structure overlooking the town. The fortress is connected to the monastic center of PalkhorChoid by a bastion reminiscent of the Great Wall of China. Attached to the monastery is the Kum Bum, the largest "chorten" existing in Tibet built according to a design depicting a mandala which has 73 rooms frescoed by 27,000 figures of Buddhist iconography. In the afternoon continuation to Shigatse (90 km - about 2 hours), the second city of Tibet and feud of the Panchen Lama, responsible for the Tashilumpo monastery. Transfer to Shegar (241 km - about 6 hours) and along the route detour of about 20 kilometers to reach Sakya. Visit of the Bon Po monastery, characterized by its walls painted in red, white and black stripes. After passing the highest pass of the entire route, Gyatso La at 5250 meters above sea level, we reach the village of Shegar. Long transfer stage to the Nepalese border of Zangmo (220 km - about 7 hours), crossing the Lalung La Pass (5050 m asl), where, weather permitting, you can observe the spectacular peaks of the 8000 Himalayans.
