Kangshung Valley Trek

Kangshung Valley Trek is one of the most beautiful and absolutely unique trekking in Tibet. Kangshung valley is located in the western part of Tibet near the border between Nepal and Tibet and it is the best place for accessing to the eastern glacier of Mount Everest. Kangshung Valley takes in one of Tibet’s most beautiful and off the beaten trekking areas. Kangshung valley is known as Kangshung face or Kartha. The Kangshung Valley trek offers you the most magnificent and close scenery of Mount Everest (8844m) with it’s lovely glaciers from Pethang Ringmo, and the closest views of Lhotse (7790m), Makalu (8475m) as well as forested landscapes with many small lakes, pastureland, and Tibetan nomad camps.

You will be warmly welcomed by our Tibetan guide and driver and accompany you to the holy city of Lhasa along with the view of Bharmaputra, known as Yarlung Tsangpo in Tibetan and a giant stone carved Buddha with more than a thousand years history.

Today you’ll visit around Lhasa and rest there for acclimatization as you’re already at above 3650 meters from sea level. After breakfast, you’ll the most famous Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple and Tibetan local market; Barkhor. Potala palace is Lhasa's most important landmark and a wonder of Eastern architecture. Your first site of this massive structure will be a magical moment which will be remembered for your rest life time. It has been a palace since the fifth or sixth century and was once the home to the Dalai Lama. Well another visit you will take is to Jokhang Temple which locates at Barkhor Bazaar. This temple is the most revered shrine in Tibet and is constantly bustling with devout worshippers. You will also be given the opportunity to shop in Barkor Bazaar, the crowded central market in ancient section of Lhasa where the residence of many local people is.

Today after breakfasts in hotel, you will drive to west Lhasa city section (about 11km) and give a visit to the Drepung Monastery, which was once the world's largest monastery. Housing 10,000 monks, Drepung monastery lies hidden in rocky ridges just beyond the city. Surprisingly much of the building was left untouched throughout so many hundreds of years. In the afternoon, the site you will visit is Sera Monastery, a fifteenth century sprawl of golden roofs and whitewashed walls. This well preserved monastery is located just a few miles North of Lhasa and is home to several hundred monks. Its famous debating activities are happening 3-4pm quite regularly every working day; you will not give it a miss.

You will start your tour at around 9Am from your hotel and then drive towards Gyangtse through 3 big mountain passes, Kampa La, Karo La, Simi La respectively. Karola is the highest pass among them which is over 5000Mts with its most beautiful glaciers, beautiful Yamdrok lake emerged as coral color from the top of Kampala pass. You will have your lunch at Nakartse country which is just between the Yamdrok Lake and Karola glaciers.

Start the tour at around 10 Am from your hotel and walk for 15 minutes towards Palchoemonastery . Visit Palchoe monastery and Kubum Pagoda stupa. PALCHOE MONASTERY & KUBUM STUPA was founded in 14 th century by local Chieftain, RebtanKunsang for funeral of his mother’s death and it was once a complex of 15 monasteries that brought together three different Tibetan Buddhist sects in the one compound. Nine of the monasteries were for Gelukpa Sect, Three were for Sakyapa Sect and the rest three were for Botonpa Sect which is one of the minor orders in Tibetan Buddhism. At the present day, the monastery is composed of one main assembly hall and some small chapels, inhabited by 70 monks. The Kubum Pagoda stupa was also built in 14th century by RabtenKunsang. The Stupa is nine storey high and 75 chapels, dedicated to the murals and statues, describing the tantric Tibetan Buddhism. Afternoon, Walk around neighborhood and enjoy with local people. Afternoon, you’ll drive straight ahead to Shigatse by passing one of the biggest farming lands in Tibet where people grow barley, wheat, different kinds of vegetables. In the afternoon you’ll visit Tashi Lhunpo monastery and old market of Shigatse. TASHI LHUNPO MONASTERY is the seat of the Penchen Lama, built in 15th century by the first Dalai Lama, called Gedun Drub. The monastery is composed of 3 big colleges such as Tsennyi College, Ngapa College, Tse Gonkang college and one big assembly hall with numerous chapels around. The main object of the monastery are the giant gilled copper statue of the Future Buddha Maitreya which is (26Meters) high, built in 1914, embodying loving kindness, contains 6,700 teals of gold and 150 metric tons of copper, and within it, an enormous juniper tree from Reting monastery functions as a life-supporting axis, Sok-Shing in Tibetan, The tomb sutpas of the successive Penchen Lamas, the tomb of the 4 th, 10 th and from those of 5 th to the 9 th together respectively. There are around 500 monks nowadays.

You will start your tour at around 9 Am from your hotel and then drive towards Palchoe monastery for a few minutes. Visit Palchoe monastery and Kubum Pagoda stupa. After the sightseeing, You will have your lunch and then continue your journey to Shigatse by passing one of the biggest farming land in Tibet where people grow barley, wheat, different kinds of vegetables. Visit Tashi Lhunpo monastery which is the seat of the Penchen Lama. After lunch, continue your journey to Sakya monastery.

Today you will start your trek and walk sloppy way up and the landscape from today is turning into more green. You’ll see view of Sherpa Tenzing Norgye’village on the other side of the river who is the first climber of Mt Everest, Qomo Langma in Tibetan.

After breakfast, start your trek as usual and cross the highest pass, Langma La (5250m). From the top of the Langma La Pass, you can view your last scenery of Lhotse and Everest. After the pass, you will see a small lake called Da-nyen, meaning Tibetan Bonjo in Tibetan named according to the located shape of the lake. Today's scenery is the villages of Kharta valley and their fields where they can grow barley only. After Yulok, we will be driving all the way to Rongbuk monastery. There are 110Km distance from Yulok to Rongbuk monastery, the highest monastery in the world.

You will start your trek from Rongbuk monastery at around 10Am and it will take you to two hrs to get there. On the way you can visit a miraculous cave of Mila Repa. After two hrs trek, you get to the Everest base camp. It is the best point of enjoying the world's highest mountain and taking photos of it. You can have a basic lunch at Everest Base camp since there are many local tented tea houses where they sell instant noodles or bread etc. You will drive through a dusty road for 70Km until you get to the friendship high way where Old Dingri is located. Old Dingri is one of the popular places to stop a night in order to view Mount Everest for tourists especially for those who are unable to go to Mount Everest because of altitude problem. On the way, visit Langkor monastery which is one of the most interesting monastery in Dingri region.
