Baruntse Expedition

Mount Baruntse (7129m) is one of beautiful peak in Nepal located between famous 8000-meter peak Makalu and Lhotse. Mount Baruntse is located in the heart of Khumbu region and it is one of easiest 7000-meter peak to climbing in Nepal. Mount is a considerable and symmetrical snow peak, has four ridges and four summits. It is bounded on the east by the Barun Glacier flowing north south from Cho, to the northwest by the Imja Tse glacier and the Hunku glacier forms the southeast boundary. The south -East Ridge of Baruntse is a bit difficult because of being straightforward hard ways to climb. In the Expedition of Mount Baruntse there are hard sections of 50 Degree’s elevation with a prominent ice cliff for climbing and facing the risk of avalanche. Mount Baruntse Expedition with Trekking Experts begins with spectacular flight to Tenzing-Hillary, Lukla airport.  And the trail to base camp of Mount Baruntse follows Lukla, Chutanga, Khare (base camp of highest trekking Peak- Mera Peak and then to Baruntse base camp. You’ll cross two popular high passes Zatrawala Pass (4600m) and Mera La Pass (5400m) on the way to base camp. Trekking in the un-spoilt Makau region offers you pure wilderness, several passes, moraines, glacial lakes and views of spectacular peak and also the amazing views of Everest and Kanchenjunga. Climbing Mount Baruntse requires high level of physical fitness and previous experience of technical climbing. Itinerary

Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan airport Trekking Experts representative welcomes you and assists to transfer in your hotel in Kathmandu. Upon arrival at hotel, our tour manager will brief you about trekking information and other necessary information. And then you’ll free time to explore Kathmandu.

Today you’ll visit around Kathmandu at the same time Trekking Experts will be preparing for climbing. One of you who will randomly picked as the Team Leader in the group needs to visit Department of Tourism for permit formalities. It will be just for about an hour only. And you can continue your tour around Kathmandu. There are several world heritage sites in Kathmandu and you can visit three among them. Most probably you’ll visit Boudanath, Pashupatinath and Bhaktapur Durbar Square.

Early morning you’ll transfer to airport and you’ll make an early start to take a spectacular, short mountain flight to Lukla, the start points for our trek. During the flight you’ll see scenic views of Langtang, Jugal ranges, RolwalingHimal, Gaurisankar and Menlumtse before getting your first glimpse of Everest. Upon arrival at Lukla airport you’ll meet trekking crew and you’ll spend a few minutes sorting out bags before trekking to Chhutanga. From Lukla, the gateway to Khumbu you’ll starts towards east passing through a number of tiny hamlets before entering the thick forest on the hillside below the KaloHimal Ridge. Be careful to stay with the group on this section as there are many trails leading away from the main path. There are many streams in the area, all of which are loosely referred to as Chhuthanga.

After early morning breakfast at lodge, you’ll continue your trek over a steeply ascending trail that heads for the crossing of Zatrawala Pass at 4600 meters. From the top of the pass, you can enjoy the spectacular views of NumburHimal, Kongde Ri, Karyolang Peak and many other fascinating peaks. Your trek continues along the levelled trail for almost one and a half hours before dropping downhill all the way to Tuli Kharka.

After breakfast at lodge, today you’ll trek Kothe. From Tuli Kharka today’s trail is a mixture of both uphill and downhill trekking through the dense forest filled with rhododendron, oak, pine and juniper trees. During the trek you will have magnificent views of Mera Peak and the surrounding snow-capped peaks. A steep descent to the Hinku River and a final uphill climb will lead you to Kothe. Kothe lies to the west side of the Hinku valley and offers serene wilderness with lush vegetation to trekkers.

After breakfast at lodge, today yur trail from Kothe goes along the ridge of Hinku river towards Gondishung. Further trekking you will pass through Lungsumgba Gompa which was built approximately 200 years ago. Here you can find Mera Peak along with its route scripted in a rock which is a fantastic piece of rock carving architecture. Your trek continues with a rather easy walking trail that leads to the summer grazing area of Thangnak where there are shops and a number of good tea houses.

After breakfast at lodge, today you’ll trek to Khare. Khare is kind of base camp of Mera Peak. Today’s trail from Thangnak goes over the lateral moraine towards HinkuNup and Shar Glaciers. From there, your further trekking is a steep climb all the way to Khare. You will have a magnificent view of Northern Face of Mera Peak from Khare. You will spend an extra day rest at Khare for acclimatization and exploration.

Today is full free day to explore around Khare and acclimatize. Acclimatization is very essential in higher altitudes to avoid mental and physical sickness. As you are above 5000 meters altitude, you will spend a rest day at Khare for acclimatization and exploration. Proper acclimatization is a must for ensuring our successful summit climb of Mera Peak. Our Sherpa team will make necessary checks on our climbing gears including ropes, ice axes, crampons, harness and other equipment before heading further to higher camps.

After breakfast at your last day lodge, today you will move up towards Mera La Pass. The trail to Mera La follows an impressive trail that goes over a rocky platform above the western ridge of Mera Glacier and follows it to the pass. You will reach the Mera La Pass. From the top of the pass, you will have mesmerizing views of high snow-capped mountains in the Khumbu region. The trail descends gently to reach our campsite just below the pass.

After breakfast at camp, today you will follow the trail that heads higher into the yak pasture grounds of the remote valley. The trail leads directly into the epicenter of the world's towering mountains with stunning views of high alpine valleys and surrounding mountains. After some time of trekking, you will reach your campsite near Seto Pokhari. Seto Pokhari literally means 'White Lake' in Nepali language and is the first of the series of lakes in Upper Hongu Basin.

After breakfast at camp, today you will cross the wide and grassy valley scattered with small boulders. The valley is more barren and rugged the more you climb higher. Then you will pass several passes on our left and trek to the Baruntse Base Camp. The trek includes serene wilderness, unique landscape and unbelievable cultural exposure.

You’ll have about 12 days to climb Mount Baruntse. During these 12 days period you will spend your days ascending the summit of most awaited Mount Baruntse. After spending some days for acclimatization and exercise you will ascent to higher camps closer to the summit. Our climbing guides will set up additional camps above the base camp, serve hygienic foods, and explore the easier climbing route. You will be trek to higher camps and descent to lower camps for more practice and acclimatization. Fully equipped and acclimatized, following the instructions of our climbing guides, finally you will hike up to the summit. The weather can change at any time and make our climb rather challenging as well as technical. The summit brings you a lot of happiness with astonishing views of Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Makalu and Kanchenjunga, Nuptse, Mera Peak and many more. After spending some quality time at the summit you will traverse back to the Base camp and put up our camp for the night stay.

Today base camp will be cleaned up and close. And then you’ll move down to Seto Pokhari by retracing your steps back on the same trail that descends gradually through Honku Valley. You will continue until you reach Seto Pokhari.

After breakfast at camp, today you will trek through the high altitude route. This is one of the remotest parts of the Himalayas. You will descend through the remote alpine valley. After trekking down for some time you will start to follow a rising trail that ascends gradually towards campsite just below Mera La Pass.

After breakfast at camp, you will climb on a steep trail towards Mera La Pass. And then you will enjoy the majestic view of the high alpine valley with surrounding Himalayas. After having spent some quality time at the top of the pass you will descend pass through Khare to reach Thangnak.

After breakfast at lodge, you will trek mostly downhill to Kothe retracing your own footsteps. You will be trekking back into a subtropical forest from a high alpine region. You will continue moving until you approach Kothe.

After breakfast at lodge, you’ll trek to Tuli Kharka and today your trail is uphill trekking through dense rhododendron forest that goes over the western section of Hinku valley towards Tuli Kharka. From Tuli Kharkayou can enjoy the magnificent views of Mera North, Mera Central and South face of Mera Peak.

After breakfast at lodge, you’ll do your final trek to Lukla today. From Tuli Kharkayou will gently ascend for the crossing of Zatrawala Pass and from the top of the pass, you’ll start descending to finally arrive back to Lukla. In the evening you can celebrate together with your crew for successful Mera Peak Climbing.

Depending on your flight time, you’ll walk to Lukla after breakfast. Then you’ll take short flight to Kathmandu which takes about 35 minutes to reach Kathmandu. Upon arrival at Kathmandu, you’ll transfer to hotel. And then you’ll have free to relax at hotel or explore around Kathmandu valley.

Today is your last day in Nepal so prepare for departure, packing and returning gear. A massage is highly recommended to relax your tired muscles before your long haul flight home. Tour leader of the trip visits Department of Tourism for some Government formalities after the trip as De-Briefing. In the evening you’ll have farewell dinner at local Nepalese restaurant with typical cultured dances.
